I’m a Hunstville, Alabama girl and I just moved to Schorndorf, Germany last week. Yesterday, I saw an apartment building named Tuscaloosa and another sign that also said Tuscaloosa and thought it was so odd to find that here in Germany since I know it is a native American name. So I googled it and I was pleasantly surprised to find that Tuscaloosa is a sister city of Schorndorf. The Alabama connection has made me feel like a little piece of Alabama is here in Schorndorf with me. 🙂
Hi! My apologies for the late response. I am just seeing your message. I hope you’re still in Schorndorf. We will have a group of students there in June, as well as an adult group there in August. I hope you’re enjoying living in beautiful Schorndorf!
I was an exchange student in Schorndorf in 1988. I plan to attend Schowo and 7060 Day and encourage others to do so. My city Mountain Home was a sister city for over 25 years! Enjoy visiting the Hahn’s Mill and Sports bar “Kalaluna.” Tell Jochen and Matthias hello!
Hey guys, I read your article about Schorndorf. And I feel sorry to say, but the second picture isn`t from Schorndorf in Baden-Württemberg. And the real population is 38.281. The size is 56,86 km² and the guy who invented the automobile is called “Gottlieb” not “Gottleib”. Maybe your wrongs belong to a false mixture of two villages. There`s another Schorndorf in Bavaria that is quite smaller and fits more to your informations about size and population.
Have a nice day
By the way, another well-known and highly frequented date is the 7060day in Schorndorf (7060 was the former postal code). All clubs and discotheques of the last 50 years are re-opened for that night and the original music is played by most of the original artists. The date is always the day after the big “Straßenfest” (Schorndorfer Woche).
For your information: Schorndorf with it`s old town wall was one of the most important cities of southern germany in medieval Europe. During the “Armer Konrad” peasant rebellion some of the trials against the leaders of the rebellion were held in Schorndorf. The executions took place in the city center.
And another funny story about the “Schorndorfer Weiber (=women of Schorndorf). During the Thirty-Years-War the city was besieged by french troops. The mayor wanted to surrender and let the troops come into the city. His wife and some dozens of other woman imprisoned the mayor and the city council and fought against the french and putted them to flight.
